High Altitude Sports Basketball Tournament Rules
This tournament will abide by the most current version of NMAA rules, except as follows:
1. Games will consist of two (2) eighteen (18)-minute halves.
2. The clock will run continuously except for the last two (2) minutes of the second half, during injuries or timeouts, mass substitutions periods ONLY if there is a substitution sitting at the scorer’s table.
3. All substitutions must report to the scorer’s table and be signaled into the game by the official.
4. Each team will receive four (4) full timeouts (1 minute) per game. In overtime, each team
will have one timeout. Timeouts DO NOT CARRY OVER TO OT
5. Full court press is allowed, unless the pressing team is up by 20+ points, half court D must be played until the lead is less than 20 points. All defenses are allowable.
6. A player will foul out upon receiving their 5th personal foul. Technical fouls and intentional fouls count as personal fouls.
7. Overtime will be a two (2) minute period and begins with a jump ball. Any subsequent overtime periods will be “sudden death” – the first team to score a point wins.
8. Any player who receives one (1) technical foul is required to be pulled from the game to “cool off”. A second technical foul will result in an ejection from that game and suspension from the following game.
9. Only one coach per team is permitted to stand on the sidelines at any one time, except during timeouts. Other coaches must be seated. If more than one coach is standing at a time, the official will issue a sideline warning. Each subsequent infraction will results in a two (2) shot technical foul. This technical is charged to the head coach.
10. Any coach who receives one (1) technical foul is confined to the bench for the remainder of the game. A second technical foul will result in an ejection from that game and suspension from the following game. Any coach who is ejected from two (2) games will be removed from the tournament. Sportsmanship starts with the coaches; be a positive role model for your players!
11. Only players on the original team roster that is turned into the tournament director are eligible to participate in tournament play.
12. Tie-Breaker, head to head result will be used as the tie breaker, if a tie still exists; “points for”, “points against”, “point differential” will be used to determine the final results.
13. Divisions may be combined for competitive purposes.
14. Co-ed teams are allowed (Open Division), gender specific divisions may be in play (Girls only). In that case the roster is limited to the gender specified on the birth certificate at the time of registration.
15. Use of ineligible players based on age, grade, and gender (if gender specific divisions are in play) will result in forfeiture of all games played by the ineligible participant. A head coach from within the division can challenge the eligibility of any player in their division of play.
16. AGE/GRADE EXCEPTION;
9U-
Players in the 3rd
grade can be 9 or 10 years old, but cannot turn 11 before 9/1/2023. Players in
the 4th grade who want to play down into the 3rd grade
division cannot turn 10 before 9/1/2023.
10U-
Players in the 4th
grade can be 10 or 11 years old, but cannot turn 12 before 9/1/2023. Players in
the 5th grade who want to play down into the 4th grade
division cannot turn 11 before 9/1/2023.
11U- Players in the 5th grade can be 11 or 12
years old, but cannot turn 13 before 9/1/2023. Players in the 6th
grade who want to play down into the 5th grade division cannot turn
12 before 9/1/2023.
12U-
Players in the 6th
grade can be 12 or 13 years old, but cannot turn 14 before 9/1/2023. Players in
the 7th grade who want to play down into the 6th grade
division cannot turn 13 before 9/1/2023.
13U-
Players in the 7th
grade can be 13 or 14 years old, but cannot turn 15 before 9/1/2023. Players in
the 8th grade who want to play down into the 7th grade
division cannot turn 14 before 9/1/2023.
14U- Players in the 8th grade can be 14 or 15
years old, but cannot turn 16 before 9/1/2023. Players in the 9th
grade who want to play down into the 8th grade division cannot turn
15 before 9/1/2023.
HS- All 2022-23 High
School Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors are eligible to play. 2023 Unsigned
Seniors are eligible to play in the HS
OPEN DIVISION ONLY.
17. Game balls will be provided by the HOME TEAM; 8-11U Open will play with a 28.5 12-HS will play with a 29.5 All Girls divisions will play with 28.5. Game ball must be approved by lead official prior to the start of the game.
